Tumaini is Christ-centered and biblically-based. At the heart of our work is the desire to see people -- our children, volunteers, neighbors -- encounter the person of Jesus and experience His deep love for them. Our guide for life and ministry is the Bible, which we believe contains God's Word to human beings.
Tumaini is a home, not an institution. We are bringing up the children of Tumaini with all the commitments that we would have for our own children. Our intention is to raise our children to know Christ, and help them internalize their own set of Christian values.
Our children will be prepared to be productive citizens, and future leaders in their own families and communities. Although we must create an effective organization to support the work, the experience of being a Tumaini child will feel like being part of a real family, rather than an institution.
Tumaini is community-based. It is no accident that our home is located within a community. We place a priority on the local community as a form of extended family for our children. Our local church provides a critical source of spiritual nurture for the children. Tumaini's presence in the community gives our neighbors an opportunity to address one of Kenya's most pressing problems.
The Tumaini team is united in purpose. Because Tumaini is a home, the people who serve here (both staff and volunteers) are part of a family. Together we share a high calling. Therefore we must work hard at loving one another, practicing forgiveness, and being servant leaders.
Tumaini is committed to networking with like-minded organizations. We know that we cannot accomplish our mission in isolation. We have much to learn from others who share our commitment to caring for Kenya's children. And we want to share our successes and hard-earned lessons we've learned with others.
Tumaini is an international endeavor. Tumaini gives people a chance to understand and be part of the solution to one of the world’s most pressing problems. Our shared mission gives people from Kenya to the US and around the world an opportunity to build relationships across barriers of language, nationality, economics and culture.
Tumaini is committed to integrity and openness in our business dealings. Our donors and volunteers are an important part of the Tumaini family. They need to know that they can trust us to handle all of our resources with the highest level of integrity. To that end, our financial records are open to the public, and audited financial statements can be made available upon request.
